Points to Remember

Points to keep in mind before cupping
Please inform your practitioner if you have pace-makers, thrombocytopenia, haemophilia, pregnancy, anaemia, active tuberculosis, are menstruating or bleeding out of menstruation due dismenorrehea, have had vomitting or diarrhoea the previous three days, are fatigued due to strenuous work or stress.

Cancer patients will only receive cupping therapy only if recommeded by their physician who knows the patient’s history. If you are one who faints easily or faints at the site of blood, please disclose it to the practitioner.
Before one decides to undergo cupping therapy, one should understand and accept the possibility of bruising or discolouration of the skin as a result of cupping and that it may last for a few days.

When you have ruled the above out and you are sure that you would like to experience cupping therapy, keep the following in mind:
Wet cupping Therapy (Hijaamah) is best done on the 17th 19th, 21st of the lunar days (Islamic calendar). However appointments for wet cupping are taken on Monday and Thursday but not during the middle of the lunar days of the (Islamic calendar).

Dry Cupping Therapy is done any time of the week as well as Gua Sha therapy, Cellulite Massage Therapy, Facial Massage Cupping Therapy, Slide Cupping Therapy and Moxibustion Therapy.

Patients are required to not bath or shower immediately before the cupping appointment unless recommended by practitioner or patient is a heavy smoker.

The patient should also not eat immediately before the cupping appointment. It is preferable that the patient eat at least an hour and a half before the cupping appointment.

Patient may also bring along a snack or juice to boost sugar levels after hijaamah, although honey will be administered to the patient after hijaamah should the patient feel a little weak or dizzy.

Headaches and mild fever are common after the cupping therapy as it is a sign of the body detoxifying. Apart from brusing, a slight burn and itchiness (where the incisions were made) is common after the Wet Cupping Therapy.
Tingling, soreness and petechia and brusing s normal after Cellulite Massage Therapy, Facial Massage Therapy, Slide Cupping Therapy and Gua Sha Therapy.
A very hot sensation will be felt during the Moxibustion Therapy as this involves a flame over the skin.

Should a patient not adhere to the above guidelines and not disclose any ailments, the practitioner cannot be held responsible for the side effects of the patient.
If you are unsure about anything, please read up on the various therapies. Know what you are getting into instead of complaining about it afterwards.
